SKILL IN ACTION

Build the capacity to be with what is happening without becoming overwhelmed or consumed by it and how to stay engaged in the work of creating conditions for our collective liberation.

Skill in Action emerged from a deep desire to practice actionable yoga off the mat and outside of the confines of a yoga studio. Of the many recent programs to emerge from Michelle’s continued work is the evolution of a mentorship training designed to support a curated group of facilitators to lead Skill in Action workshops and expand the reach of this important, necessary work.

Each facilitator brings a unique perspective to their offerings. We look forward to offering workshops in your community or studio—online and beyond.

For me, as one of the facilitators, Skill in Action has informed my work in both yoga and design (and life) in a way that modern yoga culture has long ignored. More than ever, I am called to fill in these gaps and one of the ways I know how is through offering Skill in Action workshops in your spaces with your community.

I am one of many Skill in Action facilitators have completed and continue to receive extensive mentorship from and with Michelle C. Johnson.

Myself and the rest of my colleagues are firmly committed to social justice and race-equity work, with rich skillsets and backgrounds, including experience teaching yoga, facilitating across difference, and working to create social change.

Want to learn about Michelle C. Johnson’s growing body of work?

Michelle C. Johnson (she/her) is a social justice warrior, author, dismantling racism trainer, empath, yoga teacher and practitioner, and an intuitive healer. With over 20 years of experience leading dismantling racism work and working with clients as a licensed clinical social worker, I have a deep understanding of how trauma impacts the mind, body, spirit, and heart. My awareness of the world through my own experience as a Black woman allows me to know, first-hand, how privilege and power operate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • While pre-work is optional, we do suggest that you read Skill in Action to get an idea of how the content will be facilitated.

  • The first edition of Skill in Action lit a fire in the wellness and yoga industries, which led Michelle to write the second edition of Skill in Action. This edition was deeply informed by her interactions with various people across the globe who had the same questions she did about creating a just world through the practice of yoga and creating a world in which we all are free. This new edition of the book is a deeper dive into how we can engage our yoga practice to create a more just and equitable world.
